Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A court in Adilabad on Thursday sentenced an auto-rickshaw driver to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 for raping a tribal woman last year.

Adilabad SC/ST Cases Court Principal Judge Kumar Vivek pronounced the verdict against Shaik Mukdoom for sexually abusing the woman and assaulting her under the pretext of offering a ride on September 3, 2024. The court examined evidence and cross-questioned eyewitnesses before delivering the judgement.

The incident sparked communal tensions in Jainoor, and over 30 tribals were booked in connection with the unrest.
