Mancherial: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay on Monday alleged that the Congress government was responsible for the shortage of urea in Telangana, accusing it of diverting fertiliser and inconveniencing farmers.
He, along with Peddapalli MP G Vamshikrishna, flagged off the Nagpur–Secunderabad Vande Bharat Express (Train No 20102), which has now been given an additional stoppage at Mancherial railway station.
Sanjay said the Centre had supplied 12 lakh metric tonnes of urea to Telangana during the current agricultural season. However, he alleged that the Congress had siphoned off 2.05 lakh metric tonnes, enabling certain MLAs to smuggle the fertiliser and traders to sell it in the black market. He accused the ruling party of lacking transparency and accountability while shifting the blame onto the union government.
The Minister also cited reports that a lorry carrying urea was allegedly hijacked by a gunman of the Miryalaguda MLA. He remarked that Congress leaders had become “experts in committing wrongdoings and blaming the Centre” while failing to provide proper statistics on fertiliser usage.
Sanjay demanded that the State government immediately resolve the shortage and stop holding the Centre responsible for the crisis.
