Hyderabad: BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank has urged the Defence Estates Office to immediately withdraw eviction notices issued to long-standing religious structures in the Balamrai area of Secunderabad Cantonment.
He raised strong objections to labelling them as unauthorised encroachments, terming it to be factually incorrect, legally untenable and insensitive to community sentiments.
In a representation to the Defence Estate Officer on Friday, Krishank said the Pochamma, Peddamma, Beerappa, Yellamma, and other temples mentioned in the notice have existed for over six decades and were integral to the spiritual and cultural life of local residents.
“These are not recent structures but centres of faith and harmony for thousands of devotees. Treating them as encroachments without proper verification is arbitrary and risks disturbing communal peace,” he argued.
The BRS leader stated that the notices were issued without inspection, surveys, or consultation with temple committees and residents, violating natural justice. He stressed that demolishing or displacing such religious sites would infringe upon constitutional rights under Articles 25 and 26.
He urged the Defence Estates Office to conduct a fair verification process with community participation, regularise the structures where necessary, and avoid coercive action, failing which they would pursue legal remedies, if needed.
