Karimnagar: In a shocking incident, unidentified persons robbed an elderly couple after sprinkling sedative powder on them at their house in Garshakurthy village of Gangadhara mandal.
The man, identified as Gajjala Shankaraiah, died while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital on Wednesday, while his wife, Bhagyalakshmi, remains critical.
According to villagers, the couple, who had no children, lived alone in their house. Around 11 am on Tuesday, the miscreants reportedly entered their residence and sprinkled sedative powder, causing the couple to fall unconscious. The robbers then fled with Bhagyalakshmi’s gold mangalsutra and other valuables.
When neighbours noticed the couple lying unconscious around 5.30 pm, they alerted other villagers and rushed them to the Karimnagar hospital. Shankaraiah succumbed while undergoing treatment on Wednesday. Bhagyalakshmi is undergoing treatment, while the police have launched an investigation after registering a case.
