Adilabad: A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for abetting the suicide of a young woman after he refused to marry her despite being in a relationship with her for two years.
Assistant Sessions Judge CM Rajyalaxmi delivered the judgment against Upparapu Srinivas of Kajjarla village in Thalamadugu mandal, holding him guilty of driving Pranisha, 21, to take her life by rejecting her proposal for marriage on November 29, 2023. Pranisha, a paramedical student, died after consuming acid.
The court examined 10 witnesses and verified the evidence before pronouncing the verdict. SP Akhil Mahajan appreciated the efforts of the police officials for securing the conviction.
