Rajanna-Sircilla: Owners of shops and houses in Vemulawada obstructed the expansion works of the Sri Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple, alleging that officials were carrying out works beyond the designated temple area.
Officials, who proposed widening the main road on the south side of the temple by 25 feet, began works on Friday by deploying heavy earthmoving machines and attempted to dig pits 25 feet away from the existing road.
On learning about this, owners of shops and houses, along with BJP leader Pratapa Ramakrishna, rushed to the spot and stalled the works.
Strongly objecting to the work being taken up without prior notice, the residents argued that the road expansion would cost them their residences and demanded that the exact width of the road be determined beforehand.
