Adilabad: Residents of Mukhra (K) village in Echoda mandal said that the fixing of reservations to local bodies by the Congress government had caused severe injustice to backward communities, and staged a protest at the Collectorate here on Monday.
Led by former Sarpanch Gadge Meenakshi, the villagers reached the entrance of the Collectorate and raised slogans against the State government for finalising reservations, which they said had denied due representation to BCs. They alleged that the government had duped the communities by backtracking on the promise made in Kamareddy under the BC Declaration.
Meenakshi said that only 11 percent of total gram panchayats were now reserved for BCs as against 23 percent in 2019. She demanded that the government increase the quota of seats to BCs, stating that the reservations were finalised without rationality, resulting in gross injustice to the backward communities.
