JNTU-Hyderabad students protest against hike in exam, service fees

JNTU-Hyderabad students protested against recent fee hikes, including exam, online services, transcript, and certificate processing fees. Activists warned of escalating the issue to the State government or High Court, submitting a representation to university authorities demanding an immediate rollback.

Hyderabad: Demanding immediate rollback of recently hiked examination and service fees, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) – Hyderabad students staged a protest on the university campus here on Thursday.

According to the Students Protection Forum (SPF) that led the protest, the university increased the exam fee from Rs 765 to Rs 1,500, online services fee from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500, and transcript fee from Rs 60 to Rs 100.

The forum also opposed the university’s decision to collect Rs 2,000 as processing fees for grace marks, provisional certificates and consolidated marks memos, stating that these services were earlier free of cost.

SPF student activists – Javvaji Dilip and Rahul Naik – expressed serious concerns that such a steep increase would push economically weaker students away from the higher education system.

Students warned that they would intensify their protest and approach the State government and even the High Court if the university fails to positively respond to their demands. Following the protest, students submitted a representation on the issue to JNTU-Hyderabad Rector Prof Vijaya Kumar Reddy and Director of University Examinations Krishna Mohan Rao.
