Hyderabad: A 32-year-old man from Secunderabad was cheated to the tune of Rs 75 lakh in an online betting and casino fraud, the Cybercrime Police, Hyderabad, said.
According to police, the victim was first contacted in 2021 through WhatsApp by persons posing as operators of an online betting platform, offering games such as cricket betting, Teen Patti and casino games with promises of easy profits.
“After earning a small profit on an initial deposit of Rs 10,000, he invested nearly Rs 10 lakh, which he later lost,” police said.
In March 2022, the fraudsters allegedly contacted him again and convinced him to play on another platform. Between 2021 and 2025, the victim transferred a total of Rs 75 lakh through bank accounts, UPI IDs, QR codes and cash deposit machines to multiple illegal betting websites. He ultimately lost the entire amount.
The Cybercrime police said a case was being registered for cheating, online fraud and illegal betting, and an investigation is underway.
They advised the citizens to report cyber frauds immediately on the 1930 helpline or at www.cybercrime.gov.in.
