Khammam: CPI (M) and Telangana Rythu Sangham activists on Friday took to the streets at Kusumanchi in the district demanding 24-hour power supply for irrigation needs.
The party leaders Rajashekar, Ramana Reddy, Gangadhar and others staged a dharna at a local sub-station in protest against the power cuts and shouted slogans against the Congress government’s failure to ensure continuous power supply.
Speaking to the media the leaders complained that farmers in the district were facing severe hardships because the government failed to plan ahead, despite prior knowledge of the impending El Niño impact.
In a statement former Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar expressed concern over the plight of farmers in the undivided Khammam district due to shortages of irrigation water and electricity supply.
The Revanth Reddy government has completely failed to provide the necessary water and power for the crops cultivated by farmers. Though the BRS party has been consistently questioning the government and agitating on behalf of farmers, there was no response from the government.
As a result the standing crops were now withering away. The government should take immediate action to supply the necessary irrigation water and electricity on an emergency basis to support the farmers, Ajay Kumar demanded.
