Hyderabad: The Lallaguda police arrested five persons for allegedly murdering a man near a Ganesh mandapam at Sai Nagar, Tukaramgate, on Sunday night.
The arrested are Gaddi Madan Kumar (47), Gaddi Praveen Kumar (43), Gaddi Sai Kumar (41), Gaddi Nagesh alias Nageshwar Rao (52) and Gaddi Narsing Rao (76).
The police said the murder was the result of a long-standing grudge against Burugu Karthik (26) for assisting Rajahmandry Karthik in his love marriage with a woman in 2023. The families had reportedly quarrelled over the issue earlier, and Karthik had also been threatened.
According to police, Karthik had a quarrel with the suspect’s family near the mandapam around 6.30 p.m. Later, at about 8.50 p.m., he returned to the spot with his friends.
Police said Praveen Kumar brought a knife from the house and handed it to Madan Kumar, who allegedly attacked Karthik on the neck. Praveen Kumar allegedly assaulted him with a bamboo stick, while Sai Kumar, Nagesh and Narsing Rao also allegedly joined the attack.
Karthik suffered severe injuries and was shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Police recovered a blood-stained knife, bamboo stick, clothes and other material evidence. CCTV footage and mobile phones were also secured. The suspects were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
