Hyderabad: A 38-year-old woman was allegedly subjected to a molestation attempt by a cab driver after he took her to a deserted stretch near Kothwalguda on the outskirts of Shamshabad on Saturday, with the incident coming to light late. The driver allegedly fled with her bag containing Rs 60,000 in cash.

The woman, a resident of Nalgonda district, had hired the cab at Jadcherla around 6 pm to travel to Hyderabad.

According to her complaint, she was carrying Rs 60,000 in cash. After reaching Shamshabad, the driver reportedly offered to drop her at Gachibowli for an additional Rs 50. She agreed and continued the journey.

After crossing the Tondupally toll gate, the driver allegedly stopped near a medical shop on the ORR service road, claiming that he needed to buy medicines. Later, around 9 pm, he drove towards a deserted stretch near Kothwalguda.

Police said the driver allegedly attempted to molest the woman at the isolated location. She raised an alarm and got out of the vehicle. The driver then allegedly grabbed her bag containing the cash and fled.

The woman later approached the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) Police, who registered a case under Sections 74, 318(4) and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The police have formed special teams for investigation and to identify and trace the driver. The incident occurred near the area associated with the 2019 Disha case, which had triggered nationwide outrage. On November 27, 2019, a 27-year-old veterinary doctor was gang-raped and murdered near the Tondupally toll gate. Her charred body was found the following day at Chatanpally near Shadnagar.

Four men arrested in connection with the 2019 case were killed in a police encounter on December 6, 2019.
