Adilabad farmers click selfies, send them to CM’s office for loan waiver

Say they were left with no choice but to borrow money from private lenders at exorbitant rates of interest as government is delaying loan waiver

Adilabad: In protest against the delay in extending crop loan waiver, farmers, posing with land titles, clicked selfies and sent them to the office of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, at Mukhra (K) village in Echoda mandal on Monday.

Farmers said that Revanth Reddy promised to waive crop loans of farmers during the elections. However, loans of farmers who availed more than Rs 2 lakh were not waived so far. As a result, we were forced to run from pillar to post, they said.

“We were left with no choice but to borrow money from private lenders at exorbitant rates of interest,” farmers further said. The disgruntled farmers stated that the government did not extend Rythu Bharosa as promised at the time of the elections.

They lamented that they were now reeling under a severe financial crisis. The farmers would die by suicide if the grim situation remains the same for few more weeks.

The farmers demanded the government to immediately waive crop loans above Rs 2 lakh and extend Rythu Bharosa scheme. Else, they declared that they would lay siege to the Secretariat to achieve their demands soon. Gadge Subash, Tirupathi, Ashok, Maruthi, Gnaneshwar and many others were present.
