Arjun Tendulkar continues dream run on Ranji Trophy debut; shines with ball after memorable century for Goa

Arjun Tendulkar continued his dream run on his Ranji Trophy debut and shone with the ball after hitting a memorable ton on day 2 of the fixture against Rajasthan. Arjun, who struggled with the ball early in Rajasthan’s innings, made a memorable comeback and finished with figures of 23.1-5-104-3. His economy rate of 4.49 was the highest among other bowlers but both teams’ scores suggest that the track wasn’t suitable for the bowlers.

A bowling all-rounder, Arjun scalped the key wickets of Mahipal Lomror, Salman Khan and Aniket Choudhary. Lomror scored a crucial 63 while Salman hit 40 off 94. Aniket was bowled for 38 off 63. Arjun displayed his bowling skills and played his part in Goa taking the first innings lead.

Courtesy of Arjun’s ton and a double-century from Suyash Prabudesai, Goa registered a big total of 547/9 on the board in 147 overs. Rajasthan were bowled out for 456 in 133.1 overs, which saw Goa going home with 3 points. Rajasthan were awarded 1 point.

Interestingly, Arjun’s father, Sachin Tendulkar, had also started his Ranji Trophy career with a century 34 years ago. Playing for Mumbai as a 15-year-old, Sachin scored a century against Gujarat. He made it to the national team a year later. Arjun is 23 and has played for India U-19 in past.

The left-handed batsman has made a glorious start to his first-class career and will hope to continue his form. Arjun played all his junior cricket for Mumbai but switched to Goa before the start of the 2022/23 season. He was named in Mumbai’s squad in the previous season but didn’t get a chance.

Arjun has played all three formats for Goa in the ongoing season. The left-arm pacer is part of Mumbai Indians in IPL and is waiting for his maiden cap in the T20 league.
