HYDERABAD: The state government on Monday announced Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) will be entitled to maternity leave, a decision that will bring ASHA workers in line with other women government employees.
Health Minister T. Harish Rao made the announcement during a monthly review meeting, where he acknowledged the crucial role played by ASHAs and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) in delivering quality medical services to the people at the grassroots level.
The minister directed senior health officials to conduct a comprehensive study on the implementation of maternity leave with pay for ASHAs and second ANMs and submit a detailed report on the same to make the provisions available to the frontline workers.
