Asia Cup 2022 to be held in UAE
- The development comes after the SLC recently postponed the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) due to the ongoing economic crisis in the country.
Abu Dhabi: The Asia Cup 2022, which was initially planned to take place in Sri Lanka, will now be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This was announced by the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly on Thursday.
Ganguly confirmed the developments following the board’s Apex Council meeting.
In response to the economic crisis, earlier, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) secretary Mohan de Silva said, that the tournament could be played in the UAE.
The development comes after the SLC recently postponed the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) due to the ongoing economic crisis in the country.
The six-nation Asia Cup, comprising of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and a qualifying country is tentatively supposed to be held from August 27 to September 11.
This will be the second time in the last five years that the UAE will host the Asia Cup. In 2018, the tournament, held in a 50-over format, was held between September 15 and 28 in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
