Assam BJP MLA urges PM Modi to demolish Taj Mahal, demands inquiry on whether Shah Jahan loved Mumtaz
Assam BJP MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi sparked a row after he made a bizarre remark questioning if Shah Jahan really loved Mumtaz and even demanded an inquiry into the same. He asked why the Mughal ruler married three more women after Mumtaz if he loved her so much.
“In the year 1526, Mughals came to India and later made Taj Mahal. Shah Jahan built Taj Mahal with the money taken from Hindu Kings and that was our money. He made Taj Mahal for his fourth wife. He married seven wives and Mumtaz was the fourth wife. If he loved Mumtaaz so much, then why did he marry more wives later,” said Rupjyoti Kurmi.
“An enquiry must be started on Shah Jahan on whether he truly loved Mumtaz or not,” said Assam BJP MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi.
He even urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider demolishing monuments like the Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar and Red Fort. The Assam MLA also urged PM Narendra Modi to build temples in places, where these monuments currently stands.
“I urge the Prime Minister to immediately demolish the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar. In place of these two monuments, the world’s most beautiful temples should be built. The architecture of those two temples should be such that no other monuments could be even closer to them,” the legislator said.
Kurmi further said that he is ready to donate at least his one-and-a-half year’s salary for construction of the temples.
Rupjyoti Kurmi, four-time MLA and once an ardent critic of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, switched from the Congress to the BJP in June 2021. He earlier won the Mariani assembly seat on Congress ticket. After joining the BJP, Kurmi was re-elected to the Assembly from the same constituency.
