Banakacherla controversy is due to Naidu’s over action, says CPI Narayana

Before executing the project, the Chief Ministers of both Telugu States should discuss and finalise the water sharing ratio. This responsibility should be entrusted to the Central government, he added.

Hyderabad: CPI National Secretary K Narayana said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s “over action” had triggered the Banakacherla project controversy.

The Banakacherla project was being taken up with an initial estimated cost of Rs. 8,000 crore. By the time it gets completed, the cost could escalate to Rs. 2 lakh crore, he charged.

Addressing media persons here on Friday, the CPI National Secretary claimed that large-scale corruption and irregularities were taking place in the project.

“It is being taken up to benefit contractors. If the project is executed with contractors’ investment, they will collect money for water like toll charges are being collected from motorists at toll gates,” K Narayana slammed.
