Ben Stokes after England beat Pakistan: If we find ourselves in same position in 2nd Test, we are going to do same

On Monday, December 5, the Three Lions took a 1-0 lead after beating Babar Azam’s Pakistan by 74 runs in the opening Test in Rawalpindi. After racking up one of their highest scores in Test cricket, England took a bold call of declaring in the third session of Day four.

On the last day, the visitors bowled Pakistan out on what was an excellent batting surface. Jack Leach dismissed Naseem Shah LBW and brought the curtains down on the match.

“It’s something we have been trying to do since I have been in charge. I hope it might change the way cricket is played in the sub-continent. Test cricket has been viewed as one type of play. It was said that the Australia series was a 15-day Test match.

“One thing we mentioned to the group of players is we are going to take these Tests as they come. We are going to play to win every game out here and if we find ourselves in the same position, we are going to do the same,” Stokes was quoted as saying.

The 31-year-old Stokes also said that Test cricket needs to be preserved as it’s the pinnacle of the sport.

“It’s not always going to work. it’s not always going to go your way. If you and brave and willing enough to go that way and you lose a game, it’s going to be entertaining. That’s, personally, I think how Test cricket should be played,” he stated.

“Test cricket is something that needs to be looked after, it’s the pinnacle of cricket. If we can make a little bit of changes to the way we play the game, that’s only going to do Test cricket a world of good,” Stokes added.
