‘Better Than Today’s Nepo Kids’ People Praise Uday Chopra As His Old Interview Resurfaces
Uday Chopra had everything at his feet to launch him to stardom. Bollywood’s most reputed production company, a famous family name, and connections with the film industry’s biggest and best.
Despite all these resources, he could never really grip the audience as his peers did. Eventually, he left acting and began handling Yash Raj Films as a family business.
He was often trolled for his unconventional looks, average acting skills, and even his relationship with Nargis Fakhri. However, there has been a resurgence of his fans on social media of late who believe the actor never got his due.
As a part of this new wave, an old video of his has started doing the rounds of social media.
In the short clip, he’s sitting with his father, director and producer Yash Chopra, as the two discuss how Yash ji’s 1993 film, Darr, came into being.
In an interview with Yash Chopra, Uday revealed that the title for Darr was actually suggested by actor Hrithik Roshan.
According to Uday, the idea for the film came up when the two of them were watching an Australian indie film, Dead Calm, which came out in 1989. Since they liked the film a lot, they decided to show it to Aditya Chopra, who ultimately used it as inspiration for Darr.
Uday Chopra further shared that the title of the film was something Hrithik Roshan had saved for an amateur short film he had already shot.
When Aditya Chopra locked in the story and idea for Darr, he told Hrithik that he would be using his title for his film since it fit the narrative perfectly.
Here’s a clip of the interview:
Hrithik’s suggestion of Darr (which means ‘fear’ in Hindi) immediately struck a chord with the masses too as it was a story about a love triangle with a crazed, jilted lover at its core.
The film, which was released in 1993, was a huge commercial success and established Shah Rukh Khan as a leading actor in the industry.
Hrithik Roshan went on to make his debut in the 2000 film, Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai while Uday Chopra made his debut a few months later, the same year, in Mohabbatein, starring alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
Here’s how people reacted:
On a separate Reddit thread, people also discussed that Uday Chopra deserved better. They compared him to the ‘nepotism kids’ of today and how his humility made him a much better star than them.
