Bhopal gets drenched in heavy spell of rain, records 8 cm till evening

A spell of heavy rain lashed the city on Friday. State capital Bhopal recorded 8 cm of rainfall till evening. Trees were uprooted at Makhanlal Chaturvedi University (MCU) Square, M P Nagar and Ekta Market’s Ward No 27, according to Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) call centre officials. A few hours of heavy rain caused water logging in low lying areas and affected vehicular and pedestrian movements. Light rains started at around 2 pm, gained momentum within few minutes and it turned into a heavy downpour by evening. Evening rush hour traffic was affected and the motorists struggled to make their way ahead.

Monsoon has become active in the entire state on Friday, according to meteorological department officials. Officials said that the city recorded 0.15 cm of rainfall in the afternoon providing much needed relief from sweltering heat.

In the last 24 hours, Itarsi recorded 14 cm of rainfall while Amla recorded 13 cm and 11 cm rainfall has been recorded at Narmadapuram, Budni, Tonkkhurd. Shamgarh and Tarana recorded 9 cm of rainfall.

Yellow alert has been issued for moderate to heavy rainfall at many districts like Sidhi, Singrauli, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Jabalpur, Vidisha, Rajgarh, Betul, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Ratlam, Dewas, Ujjain, Shajapur, Mandsaur, and Neemuch.
