Directs them to convene district-level meetings to discuss measures to be adopted to prevent the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza
HYDERABAD: With an avian influenza scare prevailing, the State government has directed District Collectors across the State to convene district-level meetings involving officials from forest, police, health, veterinary and animal husbandry departments to discuss measures to be adopted to prevent the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).
Special Chief Secretary Sabyasachi Ghosh issued orders to this effect. In the orders, it is said that HPAI was being reported in other States. The Centre has requested the State governments to strengthen biosecurity measures for preventing the spread of HPAI and protecting the poultry sector.
The Collectors have been directed to create awareness among poultry farmers and stakeholders, besides public about HPAI prevention, prevent transportation of sick birds and proper disposal of dead birds.
Farmers have been instructed to report about any unusual deaths of poultry to the veterinary and animal husbandry departments.
