BJP leader’s son among 10 arrested for consuming drugs at Hyderabad hotel

The Hyderabad Police arrested ten people, including the son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, for possession and consumption of cocaine at a party in a five-star hotel room, officials said on Monday.

Police said that Gajjala Vivekanand, son of BJP leader G Yoganand and grandson of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah, was arrested for consuming cocaine during a party organised in a hotel room of Radisson Blu in Gachibowli. Nine others, including one Syed Abbas Ali Jeffery, Nirbhay and Kedhar, were also arrested in the same case.

Following a tip off, police conducted a raid at the hotel and seized three used plastic covers containing cocaine (each weighing one gram before consumption), white-coloured paper used for drug consumption, and three cellphones.

After initial investigation, a police team went to Gajjala Vivekanand’s residence in Jubilee Hills.

He was brought to the police station for questioning, during which he admitted to organising a party in his hotel room at Radisson Blu, where cocaine was consumed.

Vivekanand tested positive for drugs during medical examiniation.

Vivekanand, 37, is the Director of Manjeera Group of Companies and son of businessman G Yoganand, who had contested the previous Telangana polls from Serilingampally Assembly constituency on a BJP ticket.

Further investigation is underway to identify the drug peddlers and other consumers in the case.
