BJP MP, who threatened to burn theatres for showing RRR, congratulates movie team for Golden Globes win

Telangana BJP State President and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who had threatened director SS Rajamouli of violence if theaters show RRR, has now congratulated the team after their historic win at Golden Globe Awards 2023.

Hours after RRR song Naatu Naatu won the Golden Globe award in the Best Original Song category, the MP tweeted, “Hearty Congratulations to @mmkeeravaani garu and the entire team of @RRRMovie for winning the @goldenglobes award for best original song #NaatuNaatu. You made India proud at world stage with this historic achievement.”

When Bandi Sanjay Kumar threatened makers of RRR

For those unversed, he has accused Rajamouli of ‘distorting historical facts’ and had warned that he would set theatres showing RRR on fire. “For sensation, if Rajamouli puts a cap on the head of Komaram Bheem, will we keep quiet? Never,” he said in November 2020.

He had demanded the makers to remove the scene showing Jr NTR’s character Komaram Bheem wearing a traditional Muslim outfit.

“If you are going to make a film by undermining Komaram Bheem, by undermining the rights of Adivasis and by undermining the sentiments of Adivasis, we will hit you with sticks. If you release the film in theatres, we will set fire to every theatre showing your movie,” the MP had said, as quoted by Indian Express.

However, when Rajamouli announced the project, he had reportedly clarified that even though the film is based on two iconic tribal leaders, Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju, it is not a biopic.

RRR scripts history

Rajamouli scripted history on Wednesday as the song Naatu Naatu from his magnum opus won a Golden Globe award in the Best Original Song category. As soon as the victory was announced, the RRR table at the Golden Globes erupted with joy with the lead stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR celebrating the win by Rajamouli’s side.

The trophy was collected by veteran music director MM Keeravaani who has composed the song in Telugu.

RRR stars Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris. Set in the 1920s, it centres around two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, their fictional friendship and their fight against the British Raj.
