BRS to hold State-wide protests, perform ‘Palabhishekam’ to Telangana Talli statues
BRS opposed the Congress government’s decision to unveil former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s statue in the place reserved for the statue of Telangana Talli.
Hyderabad: The BRS has announced Statewide protests on Tuesday, condemning the installation of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s statue in front of the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat. The party opposed the Congress government’s decision to unveil the former Prime Minister’s statue in the place reserved for the statue of Telangana Talli.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao called on the people to join the BRS cadre in performing ‘Palabhishekam’ and offer milk to the statues of Telangana Talli in all Assembly constituencies across the State. He said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was insulting the people of Telangana by replacing the symbol of Telangana’s identity with Rajiv Gandhi’s statue, driven by political motives.
“This is an insult to Telangana’s self-respect and history. The people of Telangana will not forgive this disrespect to their history and struggle for statehood,” the BRS working president said.
Rama Rao stated that the installation of Telangana Talli statue, representing the aspirations of four crore people of the State, was meant to honour the sacrifices made during the Telangana movement. He warned that those who undermine the sentiment of Telangana do not survive in the State politics for long. He warned that the people of Telangana, who fought for statehood, would teach the Congress a lesson for this insult.
The statue of Telangana Talli, symbolising the aspirations of four crore people, was originally planned to be placed near the Telangana Martyrs Memorial Amara Jyothi and the Secretariat. However, the BRS working president said the Congress which is known for selfish politics, decided to install Rajiv Gandhi’s statue in such a significant location. “By placing Rahul Gandhi’s father’s statue there, the Congress has insulted Telangana’s self-respect,” he stated.
Calling the Congress decision a grave disservice to Telangana’s legacy and spirit, the former Minister said the people who fought for statehood would not tolerate such actions. “How dare you insult Telangana Talli? Is this how you honour Telangana’s legacy?” he asked, asserting that the people will not forgive the Congress for its attempts to erase Telangana’s spirit and identity. He reiterated that Telangana’s identity and the sacrifices made during the statehood movement.
