Burn the culprits alive if they can’t be hanged, says Ankita Bhandari’s mother
Ankita Bhandari’s mother, while talking to the media on Monday, demanded that authorities should hang the culprits of her daughter’s murder. She added that if they cannot be hanged according to the law, the culprits should be burned alive in front of their homes.
She also added that the last rites of her daughter were conducted without informing her. They did not tell me about her cremation and the administration rushed her last rites, she added.
Ankita Bhandari’s last rites were performed on Sunday, a day after her body was fished from a canal in Uttarakhand. The 19-year-old girl, who worked as a receptionist at a resort in Rishikesh, was allegedly killed by her employer. Three people, including a now expelled BJP leader’s son, have been arrested in connection with the death.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami told India Today on Sunday that the family of the deceased girl had agreed to hold her last rites.
FAMILY FILES MEMORANDUM
Ankita Bhandari’s family members and the locals of Shrikot submitted a memorandum to CM Dhammi through Congress leader Harish Rawat.
They demanded that Pulkit Arya and the two accused in the case should be hanged. Pulkit Arya’s brother and father should be kept in custody till the completion of the investigation, said the family members.
The memorandum also said Ankita’s family should be given Rs 1 crore as compensation for their loss. Further demands include naming a village road after Ankita and an award to be named after her under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme. Further, it demanded that a government college should be instituted where the resort used to stand and a memorial site should be constructed in Ankita’s name.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP) in Uttarakhand, Ashok Kumar, said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will visit the resort today and will camp there for a few days to collect information on the case. He added that all three accused in the case are being questioned and the truth behind the murder will soon be revealed.
He said there was a meeting with the CM in which an order was given to investigate the resort. “There will be two types of investigation – is the resort illegal or is there illegal business happening in the resort?,” he added.
