Cancel Vir Das’ show in Mumbai, he makes fun of Hindu religion, deities and culture: Hindu Janajagruti Samiti
The right-wing organisation — Hindu Janajagruti Samiti — has sent a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minster Eknath Shinde, state home minister and police commissionner demanding cancellation of the comedy show of Vir Das to be organised in Mumbai.
Vir Das, who mocks Hindu deities, will not be allowed to hold programs in Mumbai, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti stated.
The program of Vir Das, who makes fun of Hindu deities, will not be allowed to happen in Mumbai, the right-wing organisation said.
Taking aim at the stand-up comedian, the organisation said that somebody just gets up and hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus and mocks the Gods in the name of ‘comedy’. Earlier ‘stand up comedian’ was Munawar Farooqui, now Vir Das has come.
“If freedom of expression is to be misused, then do you have the courage to do ‘comedy’ about places of worship of Muslims or Christians? No one would dare to do this today for the fear of being headed…But these traitors know that Hindus are tolerant, so they will only protest, the organisation said in its statement.
Last week, Das’ program in Bengaluru was canceled due to protests by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti. Now, a similar program is happening in Mumbai. This ‘comedy show’ has been strongly opposed by Hindutva organisations and nationalist citizens, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti said.
Justifying the demand to ban the show of Vir Das in Mumbai, the organisation said that the stand-up coemdian earlier made objectionable statements about Indian women, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India in his ‘comedy show’.
