Fast X review: It’s time for Dominic Toretto to take a pit stop
Against all odds, Vin Diesel has buckled up for yet another Fast and Furious movie in the form of Fast X. The tenth instalment in the series is the first film in an upcoming trilogyLink which will ultimately bring the high-octane film franchise to an end. But the cracks are already beginning to show. Fast X opens with a lengthy recap of the events of Fast Five, the picture in which Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) steal a bank vault and drive it through Rio. In this recap, viewers are introduced to Dante Reyes, the scorned son of an organised criminal who has seemingly endless money and resources and wants nothing but revenge on Toretto and his family for killing his father. Fast forward to the present day, and fans witness a truly inexplicable movie that defies logic and sense… but the cars are pretty cool. That’s something no one will ever be…

Amber Heard supporters launch Cannes protest as Johnny Depp’s red carpet return met with mixed welcome
Johnny Depp has made his red carpet return at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, less than one year since his highly publicised defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard reached a verdict. While he was met with uproarious applause from fans on the red carpet, it appears some have not yet forgotten about his allegations of abuse. On Tuesday 16 May, the 59-year-old actor walked the red carpet ahead of the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Jeanne du Barry. The film, which opened the 76th annual event, marked Depp’s first lead role since he won last year’s defamation case against Heard. In videos shared to social media, Depp was seen arriving at the French film festival with his co-star and the film’s director, Maïwenn. He stopped to take photos and sign autographs for fans, as festival-goers were reportedly heard shouting “Johnny!” at the actor. “It’s so good to see him back!!!” said one person on Twitter, while another fan tweeted: “So deserved”. Following the premiere of the…

9-1-1 fans get disappointing update on show’s future amid ABC move
9-1-1 fans have received a disappointing update on the show’s future amid its move to ABC. Following the announcement that Fox had cancelled 9-1-1, the show was swiftly picked up by ABC for a seventh season, while its spin-off series 9-1-1: Lone Star would continue to air on Fox. While crossover episodes were possible when the franchise was at the same network, Fox’s president of scripted programming Michael Thorn has said a future crossover is “unlikely” now that 9-1-1 has moved to ABC (via Variety). “As far as crossovers go, crossovers have always been really hard on the 9-1-1 franchise because they’re such an ambitious schedule,” Thorn said. “They weren’t able to do it every year when both shows were on our network anyways, so I’d say it’s extremely unlikely.” Meanwhile, Fox boss Rob Wade explained the reasons behind 9-1-1‘s cancellation at the network, saying that his predecessor Charlie Collier made the decision to axe the show. “Needless to say, you look at…

Jason Sudeikis changed Ted Lasso character in response to Donald Trump
Jason Sudeikis has admitted Donald Trump inspired him to change the character of Ted Lasso. The 47-year-old star had created his alter ego for a comedy sketch in 2013, but two years later he contemplated developing the “belligerent” sports coach further and wanted to make him a nicer person in response to the negative attitudes “unlocked” by the former ‘Apprentice’ star during his successful run for presidency. Jason explained to The Observer magazine: “It was the culture we were living in. I’m not terribly active online and it even affected me. “Then you have Donald Trump coming down the escalator. I was like, ‘OK, this is silly,’ and then what he unlocked in people… I hated how people weren’t listening to one another. Things became very binary and I don’t think that’s the way the world works. “And, as a new parent – we had our son Otis in 2014…
