    Hyderabad woman loses Rs 1.70 lakh to fraudsters posing as employer on WhatsApp

    A Hyderabad woman, working at a private company, transferred Rs. 1.70 lakh after receiving WhatsApp messages from her superior’s number, believing them to be genuine, said cybercrime officials. Hyderabad: A 30-year-old woman was duped of Rs. 1.70 lakh by cyber fraudsters who sent Whatsapp messages posing as her employer. The woman, who works with a private company in Hyderabad, received messages on Whatsapp from the phone number belonging to her superior. Believing to be genuine, the woman transferred Rs. 1.70 lakh to the number, Hyderabad cybercrime officials said. The woman later realized that the messages were not sent by her boss but someone else who had hacked his mobile phone Whatsapp and sent the messages. The amount was transferred to some unknown UPI accounts. The police on a complaint, from the victim registered a case and are investigating.
