    Hyderabad: Man stabbed to death by his brother-in-law

    Hyderabad: A man was stabbed to death by his brother-in-law allegedly over family issues at Bahadurpura on Wednesday. According to the police, the victim Mohd Rasheed (35), a businessman lived at Asadbabanagar in Kishanbagh under Bahadurpura police station limits. On Wednesday, he left home on some work and while on the way met his brother-in-law Shakeel Ahmed, when a quarrel broke out between them The suspect Shakeel was married to Rasheed’s the sister nearly a decade ago.However differences came up between the couple as Shakeel was reportedly harassing his wife over petty issues. Rasheed intervened and tried to settle their issue but could not succeed and asked his sister to come and stay at their mother’s place. “Shakeel bore a grudge against Rasheed following the developments. On Wednesday on spotting the victim on the road, he went to Rasheed and stabbed him to death,” said the Bahadurpura police. A case is registered.

    GHMC earns Rs 1,917 cr in property tax collection

    Tax rebates have once again proved to be effective as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) raked in an impressive Rs 1,917 crore in property tax for 2023-24. Notably, a major chunk of that collection came from the Early Bird Scheme (EBS) at the start of the financial year and the One-Time Scheme (OTS) at the end. Over Rs 500 crore was collected in March 2024 alone, with the tax paid under the OTS being Rs 319.59 crore up to 10 pm on March 31. The scheme exempted 90 per cent of interest on property tax arrears provided one cleared the principal amount of tax up to 2022-23. The EBS in April 2023 saw a collection of Rs 765 crore, generated from over 7.5 lakh assessments. This campaign gave a five per cent rebate on the property tax.     Hyderabad: Thief arrested, 11 bicycles recovered 

    Hyderabad: A daily wager who took to stealing bicycles was arrested by the Shahalibanda police on Tuesday. The police recovered 11 bicycles at his instance. Syed Waheeduddin (48), a resident of Pahadishareef, moved around localities and after identifying bicycles kept at the house, used to steal them on getting an oppurtunity. On March 15, he had stolen a bicycle priced at around Rs. 35,000 kept at a house and escaped. On a complaint, the police identified him with the help of closed circuit cameras and caught him. During interrogation he admitted to have stolen 11 bicycles in different areas in the city. “Waheed was accustomed to lavish lifestyle and used the money for partying at bars,” said Shahalibanda Inspector, S Ravi Kumar. The man was produced before the court and remanded.

    Hyderabad: Two traders held for using ethylene ripening powder; artificial ripener, mangoes seized

    Hyderabad: Two traders who were ripening fruits using ethylene ripening powder were caught by the Commissioner’s Task Force (southwest) team on Saturday. The police seized five packets of FYK ethylene fruit ripener and mangoes from them. Acting on a tip off, the Task Force team nabbed Irfan Khan (35) and Mohd Hussain (47), at MJ Market were found to be adopting artificial ripening methods to ripen mangoes. “Both the persons purchased the fruit ripening powder sachets from some people and used it. Consumption of the substance is harmful to the human body,” said DCP Task Force, S Rashmi Perumal.

    Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a roadshow in Hyderabad on Friday and address BJP rallies in Telangana on March 16 and March 18 ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Modi’s roadshow would be held for an hour from Mirjaguda to Malkajgiri here Friday evening, Telangana BJP sources said on Thursday. On March 16, he will address a public meeting at Nagarkurnool, they said. Modi would attend a rally at Jagtial in the state on March 18, they added.     IIT-Hyderabad cluster receives Rs. 60 cr grant from DST for SATHI scheme

    Sangareddy: The Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H)Cluster has been awarded aRs. 60 crore grant by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the Sophisticated Analytical and Technical Help Institutes (SATHI) scheme. Only three clusters have been selected under the SATHI scheme.       Four major airlines grounded at Hyderabad Airport, Centre reveals

      Hyderabad: Four airplanes, including one from Indigo, one from SpiceJet, and two from Go Air, are currently grounded at Hyderabad Airport, according to an announcement by the government on Thursday.
