Hyderabad’s groundwater crisis deepens despite rains, levels dip sharply across city

Recent data reveals a rapid decline in groundwater levels across the city, with water now being found only at depths of nearly 22 metres in Marredpally and around 19 metres in localities like Tirumalagiri and Ameerpet. Hyderabad: A growing city’s indiscriminate exploitation of groundwater resource has resulted in the water table continuing to drop drastically in most parts of Hyderabad. Latest data shows the fast depletion of the groundwater levels in the city with one has to dig deep till to almost 22 metres to strike water at Marredpally and almost 19 metres in areas such as Tirumalgiri and Ameerpet. Despite the summer rains that kept company with the city, most areas registered a further drop in the groundwater table with the level dropping by 2.65 metre at Marredpally in just one month between April and May. Modified motorcycle silencers shatter peace in Hyderabad colonies, residents demand stricter action

Residents have raised concerns about noise pollution caused by motorcycles with modified silencers, which they say is disrupting their peace. “The deafening noise is disturbing and irritating for both senior citizens and children. Youngsters are altering silencers for fun or to show off, but it’s becoming a nuisance and punishment for others,” said Mohd Saleemuddin, an IT professional from Tolichowki. Hyderabad: Fire breaks out at multi-storey apartment

Fire in the house on the second floor of the building reportedly leads to a series of multiple air-conditioner compressors exploding Hyderabad: A major fire broke in a residential multi-storey apartment reportedly following the explosion of air-conditioner compressors near Maitrivanam in Madhuranagar on Friday. No casualties were reported. As per available information, fire broke out in the house on the second floor of the five-floor building, leading to a series of multiple air-conditioner compressors exploding. Due to this, huge fire, thick smoke engulfed the entire area triggering panic. On being alerted, the local police and firefighters rushed to the spot and with the help of two fire engines, doused the fire and extinguished the smoke completely. They took preventive measures to contain the fire from spreading to other upper floors in the apartment and the adjacent buildings. The estimation of the damaged property was yet to be known.

Hyderabad: One arrested with drugs worth over Rs 3 crore

Accused Vikas Sohu used to procure drugs from peddlers and sell them to truck drivers from other States, say police Hyderabad: In a major drug bust, the Cyberabad SOT along with the Shadnagar police nabbed one person and recovered a variety of drugs and other material, altogether worth over Rs 3 crore at Raikal toll gate. The arrested person Vikas Sohu (26) is a cooking master at a dhaba at Raikal toll gate. Absconding persons are Salim from Dhoolpet, Raju from Jalpally and Ganpath from Madhya Pradesh, all drug peddlers. According to the police, Vikas Sohu and his employer Sanju Bhai were earlier arrested in similar offences. They procured drugs from Salim, Raju and Ganpath and sold them to truck drivers from other States and pedestrians who come to their dhaba. They also consumed marijuana. According to the police, Sai Karthik had earlier borrowed about Rs 8 lakh as hand loan from Siddharth Reddy on a promise of returning it at the earliest.
