The findings suggest that drinking at least four cups of tea a day is associated with a 17 per cent lower risk of diabetes over an average period of 10 years. “Our results are exciting because they suggest that people can do something as simple as drinking four cups of tea a day to potentially lessen their risk of developing type 2 diabetes“, said lead author Xiaying Li from Wuhan University of Science and Technology in China. Importance of neural system in humans

This is in continuation to the last article focusing on neural system and mechanisms of neural coordination in a human body. In today’s article we will discuss Human neural system and neurons. Human neural system• The human neural system is divided into two parts:(i) The central neural system (CNS)(ii) The peripheral neural system (PNS)• The CNS includes the brain and the spinal cord, and is the site of information processing and control.• The PNS comprises all the nerves of the body associated with the CNS (brain and spinal cord).• The nerve fibres of the PNS are of two types —— Afferent fibres— Efferent fibres• The afferent nerve fibres transmit impulses from tissues/organs to the CNS.• The efferent fibres transmit regulatory…

Researchers discover new imaging information system may provide accurate prognosis for certain cancers

Washington: A novel imaging information system developed by researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus may eventually provide a faster, more accurate prognosis for certain tumours.Oncologists have long used the Ki67 protein as a proliferation biomarker for human tumor cells. Yet the time, money and distribution method has challenged medical professionals. Fuyong Xing, PhD, first author of the paper and an assistant professor in the department of biostatistics and informatics at the Colorado School of Public Health, is the principal investigator of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) R21 Project. The goal is to to develop a novel imaging information system that automates the process of scanning the Ki67 protein for gastrointestinal and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, eventually creating a Ki67…

Excess weight, not high blood sugar, linked with high long Covid

New Delhi: A team of UK researchers has now linked excessive weight, and not high blood sugar, with an increased risk of long Covid. Early in the pandemic, research identified diabetes and obesity as risk factors for becoming severely ill with Covid-19. “We know that many people living with type 2 diabetes are also carrying excess weight. Our early findings support the idea that obesity-related mechanisms may be responsible for the excess risks of Covid-19 associated with diabetes, rather than high blood sugar per se,” said Dr Anika Knuppel from University College London. The findings, to be presented at European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) annual meeting in Stockholm, Sweden (September 19-23), were announced after a meta-analysis of over 30,000 UK adults…
