      Increased exercise may lower the risk of heart failure

      According to new research published today in the American Heart Association’s flagship journal Circulation, engaging in moderate or vigorous physical activity may reduce the risk of developing heart failure. This finding comes from a six-year analysis of more than 94,000 adults in the U.K. Biobank who had no history of heart failure at enrollment. It’s one of the first studies to estimate the risk of heart failure using objectively measured activity levels. Performing 150-300 minutes of moderate exercise or 75-150 minutes of vigorous exercise each week may reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, according to earlier research findings.       Hyderabad: The ‘All India Saree Mela’ is being organised in the city at Shilparamam, Madhapur. The 20-days annual event kick-started on September 1 and is open for the visitors from 10.30 am to 8.30 pm. According to a press release, artisans from all over India are participating in the Mela.       Lufthansa pilots on strike, 800 flights likely to be cancelled today

      German airlines major Lufthansa is expected to cancel 800 flights on Friday after the pilots’ union announced a one-day strike, starting at midnight, over non-approval of salary hike. The strike is said to affect as many as 130,000 passengers, Lufthansa airlines said in a press release. The Vereinigung Cockpit union told news agency Reuters that pay talks had failed and Lufthansa pilots would stage a 24-hour strike starting just after midnight on Thursday, affecting both passenger and cargo services. The flight cancellations would affect Frankfurt and Munich airports, the airlines noted, adding that several flights were cancelled on Thursday as well.       BE gets approval to manufacture pediatric vaccine for S. pneumonia

      Hyderabad: Vaccine manufacturer Biological E. Limited (BE) announced on Thursday that the Subject Expert Committee of Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has approved the Phase 3 infants clinical trial data and recommended for manufacture of its 14-valent pediatric vaccine against Streptococcus pneumonia. The investigational pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine PCV14 can be administered in single-dose and multi-dose presentations. It can be given to infants at 6, 10 and 14 weeks of age. Streptococcus pneumoniae infection continues to be a leading cause of child mortality under five years of age in India and in developing countries.
