Palestine fires six missiles after Israel launches one of the ‘deadliest’ military raids in West Bank

The Israeli military on Thursday informed that Palestinian militants fired as many as six rockets from the Gaza Strip towards the country’s south. The firing of the projectiles comes less than 24 hours after Israel carried out a rare daytime arrest operation that triggered fighting in the occupied West Bank, killing at least 11 people and wounding more than 100.  The Palestinian side is yet to claim responsibility for the rocket attacks. However, the Israeli military was able to intercept five of the rockets toward the cities of Ashkelon and Sderot.  On Wednesday, the Palestinian ministry said 80 citizens suffered gunshot wounds in Nablus as the Israeli army conducted its raid. Experts have dubbed it as one of the deadliest…

UN passes non-binding resolution calling for Russia to withdraw from Ukraine

The UN General Assembly approved a non-binding resolution on Thursday that calls for Russia to end hostilities in Ukraine and demands the withdrawal of its forces, sending a strong message on the eve of the first anniversary of the invasion that Moscow’s aggression must end. The 141-7 vote with 32 abstentions was slightly below the highest vote for the five previous resolutions approved by the 193-member world body since Russia sent troops and tanks across the border into its smaller neighbour on February 24 2022. The General Assembly has become the most important UN body dealing with Ukraine because the Security Council, which is charged with maintaining international peace and security, is paralysed by Russia’s veto power. Its resolutions are…

Republican uses derogatory word for Polish people in speech claiming GOP is not bigoted

A Minnesota state senator’s defence of the Republican Party was complicated when he used a derogatory term for Polish people. State Sen Mark Johnson was arguing in a speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday night that Republicans had good faith objections to a bill that would allow undocumented Minnesotans to obtain driver’s licences when he made the remark. “There are holes in this bill,” Mr Johnson said. “We’re not calling groups any names. What we’re saying is we need to protect Minnesotans. Doesn’t matter what your race, your color, your creed, Norwegian, P****k, Somalian, you name it. But folks, we have concerns about this — and when we bring those concerns up on the floor, tonight we were called white national racists.” Minnesota…

No 10 slaps down Sadiq Khan after London Mayor begged PM for yet more money to prop up hated ULEZ expansion with £110m car scrappage scheme for home counties commuters

Downing Street slapped down Sadiq Khan today after he begged Rishi Sunak to spend £110million to prop up his controversial ULEZ scheme. The Labour Mayor of London has already made hundreds of millions from his hated ultra low emission zone, as income rose from £77million to £226million in the last two years.   Yet the Government slammed Khan’s demands for more money, saying it was up to him to ‘justify his decision to expand the ULEZ’ and make sure it is ‘not just a tax on the poorest motorists’. A Government spokesman said: ‘We have provided TfL with £6billion in funding to keep public transport moving, as well as £2billion towards vehicle grants and infrastructure to support the rollout of clean vehicles across…

Only 22 Afghans resettled in UK under ‘pathway’ to help vulnerable refugees

Only 22 Afghan people, including eight children, have been resettled in the UK under part of a government scheme that promised to help vulnerable refugees. At the same time, the number of Afghan nationals arriving in the UK on small boats across the Channel rose to 8,633 last year – a sixfold increase on 2021. Afghans have in recent months overtaken Albanians as the predominant nationality undertaking the dangerous, irregular crossings. The lack of a viable functioning route to the UK was forcing desperate Afghans, many of whom worked closely with the British authorities in Kabul before the Taliban took over, to take small boats across the Channel, a refugee charity said. The government had promised to take up to…
