Shocking data shows two-thirds of Albanian migrants in the UK with tags have cut them off

The majority of Albanian Channel migrants who have been tagged in a bid to stop them from skipping immigration bail and going off the radar have either cut off or damaged their tags, official figures show. Out of the 284 Channel migrants tagged since June last year, 204 of them are Albanians. Figures from the Home Office show that 133 of these 204 had breached their tagging conditions including, in many cases, by removing them. And 51 of the 64 Albanian criminals who were tagged ahead of their potential deportation also broke their conditions. Videos on TikTok show just how easy it is to remove an ankle tag, with one clip showing a woman using a pair of scissors to cut off…

Brexit is doomed, says Boris Johnson’s favourite paper

The Conservatives have made such a “hash” of Brexit that the project is probably “unsalvageable”, according to Boris Johnson’s favourite newspaper. An editorial column in The Telegraph – where Mr Johnson formerly worked and known to be his favoured newspaper – suggested that Brexit was now doomed to failure. Admitting “almost nothing has been achieved”, the Brexit-backing newspaper added: “With no plan to unleash its potential, it can only fester, stoking tensions in Northern Ireland and strangling small firms with red tape.” “It is time for the Leave camp to start saying the unsayable: the Tories have made such a hash of Brexit that the project is probably now unsalvageable,” it added. The column marks the rise of so-called “Bregret” or “Regrexit”, with polls indicating that many Leave voters…

Athletes from Russia and Belarus were barred from competing at Wimbledon and team events such as the Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup last year because of the war in Ukraine. Normally, flags can be displayed during matches at Melbourne Park. But Tennis Australia reversed that policy for the two countries involved in the invasion of Ukraine that began nearly a year ago. “Our initial policy was that fans could bring (flags) in but could not use them to cause disruption,” Tennis Australia said in a…

After the rampage: Brazil’s new leaders to fight hard in wake of ‘insane’ coup attempt

Sônia Guajajara should have been making history last Tuesday afternoon, being sworn in as the head of Brazil’s first ministry for Indigenous peoples at a ceremony at the presidential palace in Brasília. Instead, with that building wrecked last Sunday by thousands of far-right extremists, she sat in her office overlooking Brazil’s similarly ransacked congress, reflecting on the stunning attempt to overthrow one of the world’s biggest democracies. “It was truly frightening … such insanity,” said the 48-year-old politician who hails from the Amazon and worked as a cleaner and nanny before becoming a leading Indigenous activist. “They say they are patriots who are fighting for Brazil … [but] this is terrorism … and this was engineered by people with economic and political…
