UK Junior doctors to stage three-day strike if vote passes

Junior doctors will walk out for three days in March if their ballot for strikes succeeds, the British Medical Association has said. The union said such action would start with “full walkouts” – including the removal of emergency cover – for 72 hours. BMA leaders have already said that junior doctors are “very likely” to vote in favour of strikes, as part of a campaign to see pay rise by more than one quarter. The industrial action by doctors would be the first since 2016, when four periods of industrial action led to almost 300,000 appointments and operations being cancelled. A 72-hour walkout would be significantly longer than those strikes, which lasted up to 48 hours hours each. The removal of emergency cover means NHS…

Prince Harry ‘killed 25 people in Afghanistan’

The 38-year-old prince has claimed in his new memoir, ‘Spare’, that he killed 25 Taliban fighters during a tour in Afghanistan. Harry – who undertook two tours of the country – wrote: “It seemed to me essential not to be afraid of that number [of people killed]. So my number is 25. “It’s not a number that fills me with satisfaction, but nor does it embarrass me.” Harry even likened the Taliban fighters to “chess pieces removed from the board”. Despite this, the prince actually relished his time in the British military as it allowed him to escape the dramas of royal life. He said: “I was no longer Prince Harry, I was Second Lieutenant Wales of the Blues and…

Argentina becomes top destination for soon-to-be Russian mothers

Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine, many soon-to-be Russian parents have been flying to Argentina to give birth so their child can obtain citizenship of the South American country. Owing to Russia’s growing isolation, Argentina has become the number one destination for birth tourism as the country doesn’t require visas from Russians. The head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy, Georgy Polin said around 2,000 to 2,500 Russians have moved to Argentina in 2022. Many of these people were women who were planning to give birth in the country. “In 2023 year, that number can grow to 10,000,” Polin predicted. Polina Cherepovitskaya, a Russian woman who gave birth in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires in December told The Guardian, “I found…

Venezuela opposition appoints three exiled lawmakers to leadership

Venezuela’s opposition national assembly on Thursday appointed three exiled lawmakers to direct it and create a commission to control foreign assets, including oil refiner Citgo Petroleum. The assembly voted last week to remove Juan Guaido, the public face of the fractious opposition since 2019, as its interim president. The United States and other governments had backed Guaido after deeming the 2018 re-election of President Nicolas Maduro as fraudulent. © Thomson Reuters Legislators who backed ending the interim government say their control of foreign assets is not at risk – despite warnings from Guaido and others – and the dissolution was necessary for unity ahead of presidential elections tentatively scheduled for 2024. The new leadership triumvirate is assembly president Dinorah Figuera and…

Vladimir Putin has cancer and will die soon

Ukraine’s military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov says that sources close to the Kremlin have confirmed that the Russian tyrant is suffering from cancer and has been sick for a “long time”. Asked if Putin was “terminally ill”, Budanov told ABC News: “Of course. He has been ill for a long, very long period. I think he will die very fast. I hope, I am sure he has cancer.” Budanov claims that he “just knew” about Putin’s ill health after receiving information “from people, from sources”. Quizzed on whether the intelligence agency had obtained information from sources close to the Russian leader, Budanov said: “Yes.” The intelligence chief claims that the war “must end before Putin’s death” and believes that Ukraine…
