Victim hits back as Nigerian politician jailed for UK organ trafficking plot: ‘My body is not for sale’
Awealthy Nigerian politician and two others have been jailed for plotting to harvest a man’s kidney, as the victim hit back at the trio telling them “my body is not for sale”. Senator Ike Ekweremadu, 60, his wife Beatrice, 56, and medical “middleman” Dr Obinna Obeta, 51, were found guilty at the Old Bailey of conspiring to arrange the travel of a young man with a view to exploiting him for his body part. The Ekweremadus’ 25-year-old daughter, Sonia, who has a severe kidney disease and was the intended recipient of the organ, was present in court alongside her older brother Lloyd and other members of the family. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday issued a stern warning against the eviction order issued by Visva Bharati University to Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. “If you touch Amartya Sen’s house, you don’t know me and what I can do,” said the CM while speaking to media persons in West Bengal’s Bolpur. This comes a day after the Calcutta High Court stayed the university’s eviction notice till a lower court passes an order on the matter. UAE’s low-cost airline Wizz Air Abu Dhabi mulls to start flights to India
The ultra-low-cost airline Wizz Air Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates is undergoing regulatory procedures to begin flights to India. “We are looking at the Indian Subcontinent as there is very high demand. We are super excited if we get into that market as we are currently going through the regulatory normal process and as soon as that is closed we will be able to announce routes,” said Johan Eidhagen, officer and managing director for Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, reported Khaleej Times.
