Cricket fraternity reacts to Virat Kohli’s maiden ton in T20I
Hyderabad: King Kohli smashed his maiden international T20I hundred yesterday against Afghanistan in the ongoing Asia Cup. Virat Kohli clubbed 6 sixes and 12 fours in an electrifying 61-ball 122 to help India beat Afghanistan by 101 runs. His 71st century came after 1020 days as he struggled to score runs due to lack of form. Before this match, he scored his last century in 2019 against Bangladesh. With this century, Kohli joined Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul as only the fourth batsman in the history of Indian cricket to score a ton in all formats of the game. He hit 27 Test centuries and 43 ODI centuries in his career, and also equaled Ricky Ponting’s tally of 71 centuries. Here’s how the…

With an innings of unshackled brilliance Kohli ends century drought in Asia Cup
There was a moment of suspenseful silence. A moment when all the eyes in the stadium were tracking a white ball’s path. Then as the ball landed onto the scantly-filled gallery behind the midwicket fence, the stadium let out a collective roar of joy so loud that it could stop traffic at the bustling Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Then the collective converged onto the five-foot-eleven sleek figure of Virat Kolhi, standing in the middle of the ground, statue-like, immersed in a transcendental dream. He woke up from the trance of his 71st hundred — a hundred after 1020 days, his longest ever wait — kissed the wedding ring tied onto the chain on his neck, one for his wife…

Rohit is probably sick watching himself on TV: When Wasim Akram was annoyed during a pre-match show of Afghanistan vs Pakistan
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram jokingly deflected a question on Rohit Sharma during a pre-match show ahead of the Asia Cup Super 4 match between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Sharjah on Wednesday, September 7. Akram was not impressed by a question about the India captain in the lead-up to the crunch Super 4 match as he was handling commentary duties with former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar. Reputed presenter Mayanti Langer had asked Wasim Akram a question on India’s approach to their T20I game after the loss to Sri Lanka to which the former Pakistan fast bowler requested Sanjay Manjrekar to respond to the question. However, Mayanti jokingly told Akram to take the question to which the former Pakistan fast bowler explained why…

Asia Cup 2022: Tricky Afghanistan test awaits India
All but out of reckoning for the summit clash, a dishevelled India would like to put their house in order before facing a gutsy Afghanistan team which could prove to be a proverbial banana peel in the final Super 4 clash of the Asia Cup on Thursday. The Indian team hasn’t performed to its full potential in the Super 4 stage and lack of resources and poor team selection can also be blamed for back-to-back demoralising defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. What ails the current Indian team is lack of flexibility in its planning and perhaps a few fingers will be pointed at head coach Rahul Dravid. It seems that Dravid is wary of taking a few hard calls when…

Explained: How India can still reach Asia Cup final after defeat against Sri Lanka
India’s 2022 Asia cup campaign suffered a major blow as they suffered another last-over defeat on Tuesday (September 6) at the hand of Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium. The Men in Blue have now lost two games in a row in the Super 4 stage of the competition While India face a massive fight to reach the final, they still have a chance to not be knocked out of the competition. However, a victory for Pakistan against Afghanistan on Wednesday (September 7) in Sharjah will end India’s campaign and confirm a Pakistan-Sri Lanka final on Sunday (September 11). If Afghanistan pull off an upset, India will remain in contention to reach the final. This will require the Men…

Suresh Raina retires from all forms of cricket including Indian Premier League
Suresh Raina on Tuesday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, including the Indian Premier League. Raina, who was an integral part of four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings, went unsold in the auction earlier in 2022. The left-handed batter was a permanent fixture in the Indian team for many years and was part of the 2011 World Cup winning side as well. Raina has represented India in all three formats of the game, but his contributions to white-ball cricket stand out. In 226 ODI matches for the nation, the left-handed batter scored 5615 runs at an average of 35.31 with his highest score being 116 not out. When it comes to T20Is, Raina played 78 matches and scored…

Arshdeep Singh is India’s pride, every Indian stands with him: BJP
New Delhi: Describing cricketer Arshdeep Singh as the “pride of India”, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Tuesday said every citizen stands with the left-arm bowler. Chugh also welcomed the Information and Broadcasting Ministry’s action against Wikipedia for letting Khalistani slurs pop up on Singh’s page after he dropped a catch at a crucial juncture of the India-Pakistan T-20 match in Dubai on Sunday. “Arshdeep is the pride of India. He is a rising star from Punjab and every Indian stands with him. Strict legal action must be taken against those posting hate remarks against him,” Chugh, who is also from Punjab, said. The bowler, however, also received support on Twitter with a campaign #IStandWithArshdeep. Leaders in Punjab, cutting across…

Mohammad Shami trends on Twitter after India’s loss to Pakistan in Asia Cup
India lost their first Super Four match to Pakistan in the Asia Cup yesterday. Batting first, team India made 181 runs losing 7 wickets. Pakistan chased down the target with just one ball to spare. Mohammad Rizwan (71) and Mohammad Nawaz (42) kept Pakistan in the hunt as they stitched a much-needed 73-run partnership that saw them cross the line. Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed the wicket of Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam in his first over and conceded only 26 runs in his quota of four overs. Other Indian bowlers failed to make an impact as they kept leaking too many runs. After the defeat, many felt that the result of the match could have been different, had Shami…
