Kuwait, Hong Kong, UAE, and Singapore will compete against each other to qualify for the last spot at the Asia Cup. IND vs WI: Obed McCoy Six-Fer, Brandon King Fifty Help Windies Clinch Nail-Biter
West Indies beat India in the second T20I at Warner Park St Kitts to clinch a nail-biter which also made sure that they level the five-match series 1-1. In the dying stages of the game, Devon Thomas kept his calm and smashed a six off a free hit which was bowled by Avesh Khan as he helped Windies register a five wicket win. Khan was perhaps not the best bowlers to bowl the final over, but ended up bowling one, and his execution was way off. He began by bowling a no ball which meant he would have to bowl a free hit in the final over as the hosts needed ten off the last six. In the end, it…

On This Day: Jim Laker forays into record books, claims all 10 wickets
Hyderabad: Sixty-six years ago, on 31st July, English off-spinner Jim Laker achieved a rare feat by claiming all 10 wickets (the first ever in the game’s history) in an innings. Jim Laker was the former off-spinner who represented England in 46 Test matches. Domestically, he played for Surrey County Cricket Club. The off-spinner pulled off the feat in a Test match against Australia in 1956 in Manchester at Old Trafford. He restricted the Australian team to a mere total of 205 runs and helped England win the fourth Test of the five-match series against Australia. Having won the toss, England decided to bat first and piled 459/10 in the first innings thanks to their opening batsman Peter Richardson and one down…

Rohit Sharma dethrones Guptill to become leading run-scorer in T20Is
India skipper Rohit Sharma went past New Zealand opener Martin Guptill to regain first place in the list of top run-getters in T20 Internationals during the first T20I of the five-match series against West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium, here on Friday. Rohit, who was rested for the ODIs, looked in solid touch on his comeback and played some glorious shots. The ace opener scored 64 off 44 during his stay at the crease and in the process, he reclaimed his position as the highest run-getter (3443 runs) in T20Is from Martin Guptill (3399 runs). Earlier this week, Guptill had surpassed Rohit to become the leading run-scorer in the shortest format. The Indian captain needed 21 runs before the…

‘Cheap Tactics Won’t Help’ Kiwi Legend Slams BCCI’s Plan To Revive Virat Kohli’s Career
After sitting out of the ODI series, the majority of senior India players are back on national duty as Rohit Sharma and his men gear up for the first encounter of a five-match T20I series against the West Indies. However, one key name that’s missing from the T20I squad is the former India captain Virat Kohli, who is currently vacationing in Paris with his wife Anushka Sharma and daughter Vamika. While announcing the squad, the selectors didn’t state the reason why the 33-year-old was not picked in the squad but multiple media reports have suggested that the batter had himself asked the selection panel to give him a break. IND vs WI, 1st T20I: Rohit, Karthik set up crushing 68-run win for India
Tarouba (Port of Spain): Rohit Sharma’s elegant half-century and Dinesh Karthik’s blazing finish were backed up by a solid bowling performance as India made short work of West Indies with an easy 68-run victory in the first T20I on Friday. While Rohit set up the platform with a 44-ball-64, it was Karthik’s calculated assault — an unbeaten 41 off 19 balls — that took India to 190 for six after being put into bat. The last three overs of the Indian innings yielded 45 runs, which became the turning point. On a track where there was spongy bounce with a bit of turn and grip, Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (2/22 in 4 overs), Ravindra Jadeja (1/26 in 4 overs) and Ravi…

No shorts in cricket, please; it will ruin the game
The traditions and culture of cricket that made it a gentleman’s game with a all encompassing aura are being threatened by ill conceived innovations. The latest move that is under consideration is to introduce shorts as part of a cricketer’s uniform. Several seasoned players have made it known that they are against this new idea. It will make the players look ridiculous. But the idea has not been ruled out and is still under debate. First it was the multi-coloured clothing that replaced the elegant white uniforms. That happened due to media tycoon Kerry Packer whose objective was to rope in a bigger TV audience more than upkeeping the tradition. It was initially ridiculed and termed “pyjama cricket” but later it was tolerated by the purists…
