Wimbledon: Sania Mirza-Pavic pair suffer defeat against Skupski-Krawczyk
India’s Sania Mirza and her Croatian partner Mate Pavic’s dream of winning the Wimbledon mixed doubles title came to an end on Wednesday as they were defeated by defending champions Neal Skupski and Desirae Krawczyk. Sania and Pavic pair lost to defending champions Skupski and Krawczyk 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 in a hard-fought match on Court Two. The duo of Mirza and Pavic made it to the semifinals with the 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win over Dabrowski and Peers. This is Mirza’s best-mixed doubles performance at the All England Club. Wimbledon: Djokovic defeats Jannik Sinner in QFs, enters semis for 11th time
The six-time champion Novak Djokovic made a promising comeback from two sets down to beat Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Wimbledon on Tuesday. The Serbian, the No 1 seed, entered his 11th semi-final of Wimbledon after defeating Jannik Sinner 5-7 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-2, at the centre court. With this win, the 35-year-old has extended an unbeaten run at Wimbledon to a total of 26 matches. Djokovic was two sets down before he made a promising comeback from the third set to enter the semis. French Open: Rafael Nadal beats Casper Ruud to win 14th title
Paris: Rafael Nadal pulled away to beat Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in the French Open final on Sunday for his 14th championship at Roland Garros and 22nd Grand Slam title overall, adding to two records he already owned. Nadal’s victory came two days after his 36th birthday and made him the oldest title winner in the history of the clay-court tournament. Ruud led 3-1 in the second set, a deficit that spurred Nadal to raise his level — he took the last 11 games. Sania Mirza-Hradecka pair knocked out from French Open
Sania Mirza and her Czech partner Lucie Hradecka displayed fearless brand of tennis but much younger and superior American singles players Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula prevailed in the women’s doubles third round of the French Open, here on Tuesday. Despite a combined age of 72 years, Mirza and Hradecka produced some high quality tennis but lost 4-6 3-6 to Pegula, ranked 11th in the singles and world number 23 Gauff. Mirza was impressive with her lower and angled forehands while Hradecka’s power-packed backhand hitting from the baseline was a treat to watch but the Americans got those crucial points that dictated the outcome of the match.
