Ear tips in new AirPods Pro incompatible with older model: Apple
New Delhi: Apple has explained that new silicone ear tips with the second-generation AirPods Pro are not compatible with the older generation of AirPods Pro. In a support document, the tech giant said the original AirPods Pro ear tips have “noticeably denser mesh” in comparison with the second-generation ear tips. “Ear tips have been designed specifically for their AirPods Pro generation, to deliver the highest-fidelity audio experience,” said the company. As a result, “use the ear tips that come with your AirPods Pro”. The company explained the reason for this, saying that AirPods Pro (1st generation) ear tips have noticeably denser mesh than AirPods Pro (2nd generation) ear tips. However, using older ear tips won’t affect the sound or noise-cancellation quality on new AirPods.…

New Microsoft Windows 11 security tool will frustrate password hackers
New Delhi: shoppingmode Microsoft has unveiled a new security feature in Windows 11 that will make it extremely difficult for hackers to steal user credentials. Called the SMB authentication rate limiter, it is available in Windows 11 Insider and Windows Server Insider builds and makes it more time-consuming for cyber criminals to target the server with password-guessing attacks. “If your organisation has no intrusion detection software or doesn’t set a password lockout policy, an attacker might guess a user’s password in a matter of days or hours. A consumer user who turns off their firewall and brings their device to an unsafe network has a similar problem,” said Microsoft security expert Ned Pyle. The company said that the SMB server service now defaults to a two-second default…

Meta, Google put employees on ‘notice periods’ to find new role or leave
New Delhi: Facebook’s parent company Meta and Google are reducing staff to cut costs amid the economic downturn, apparently putting some of them on traditional 30 to 60 days “lists” to find a new role within the company or leave. Meta plans to cut costs by at least 10 per cent in the coming months and has put out more and more workers whose jobs are being eliminated on its traditional “30-day list,” reports Wall Street Journal. On the other hand, Google’s parent Alphabet has reportedly deployed a similar approach, typically giving workers 60 days in which to apply for a new role if their jobs are set to be cut. “Facebook parent is looking to reduce costs by at least 10 per cent, people…

FB users sue Meta for tracking them on iOS devices via a workaround
San Francisco: Facebook users have sued its parent company Meta in the US for allegedly tracking them via an in-app browser on iOS devices despite tough Apple privacy policies in place. The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, alleged that Meta follows users’ online activity by “funneling them into the web browser built into Facebook and injecting JavaScript into the sites they visit”. According to a TechCrunch report, that code makes it possible for the company to monitor “every single interaction with external websites”. Apple introduced a major iOS privacy update via iOS 14.5 last year to stop third-party apps like Facebook from tracking user behaviour and their browsing history via App Tracking Transparency (ATT)…

Microsoft survey suggests bosses think workers do less from home, but workers disagree
As per a significant new Microsoft survey, managers and employees have fundamentally different opinions on productivity when working from home. Bosses question whether remote work is equally productive as being in the office. While 87 per cent of employees said that working from home increased their productivity, 80 per cent of supervisors didn’t concur. In 11 different nations, the poll questioned more than 20,000 employees. Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, told the BBC that this tension needed to be handled because it was unlikely that companies would ever revert to their pre-pandemic working practices. “We have to get past what we describe as ‘productivity paranoia’ because all of the data we have shows that 80 per cent plus of the individual people…
