Meta, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter grilled over privacy, moderation failures
Washington: The US Senate Homeland Security Committee grilled executives from Meta, TikTok, YouTube and Twitter over privacy and moderation failures on their respective platforms in recent years, saying that they “keep avoiding sharing really very important information with us”. Apple fixes new zero-day bug being actively exploited by hackers
New Delhi: Apple has fixed fresh vulnerabilities in iOS and macOS, including a zero-day flaw being actively exploited by hackers. The zero-day flaw, known as CVE-2022-32917, allows a malicious app to run arbitrary code on an affected device with kernel privileges, Apple said in a security update. Apple fixed the bug in updates for iOS 15.7 and iPadOS 15.7, macOS Monterey 12.6 and macOS Big Sur 11.7. Apple warned that it is aware that this flaw “may have been actively exploited”. According to TechCrunch, this is the eighth zero-day vulnerability fixed by Apple this year. Instagram is internally testing new tipping feature for creators
San Francisco: Meta-owned photo and video-sharing platform Instagram is internally testing a new tipping feature for creators on the platform, media reports say. The test feature called “Gifts” would enable creators to earn money through Reels, reports TechCrunch. “This feature is an internal prototype and not testing externally,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying in an email to the website. The feature was first spotted by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi back in July, when Instagram was developing the feature under the name “content appreciation”. NASA delays launch of Artemis 1 Moon rocket, again | 5 points on the 3rd attempt
After two failed attempts, NASA on Monday delayed the Artemis 1 Moon rocket launch date for its third attempt from September 23 to September 27. Artemis 1 was scheduled to launch “no earlier than Friday, Sept. 23, at 6:47 a.m. EDT (1047 GMT)” from Launch Complex 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. However, the Artemis 1 moon rocket will now be grounded for at least four more days. Artemis 1 was supposed to be aloft already. New Delhi: After a YouTuber claimed on social media that her aunt allegedly died after her Redmi 6A smartphone exploded near her on the bed while sleeping, Xiaomi said it was probing the unfortunate incident. Retail second most targeted industry by ransomware globally
New Delhi: Retail was the second-most targeted industry by ransomware last year of all sectors, after media, leisure and entertainment sectors, a report has shown. Globally, 77 per cent of retail organisations surveyed were hit — a 75 per cent increase from 2020. This is also 11 per cent more than the cross-sector average attack rate of 66 per cent, according to global cybersecurity firm Sophos. India only major country to grow in the smart personal audio market
India was the only country that bucked the global negative trend in the smart personal audio shipments in the second quarter (Q2) this year, registering a huge 55 per cent growth. The worldwide smart personal audio shipments fell by 1.7 per cent year on year to 98.1 million units, according to market research firm Canalys. India, the world’s third largest smart personal audio market, increased shipments by a massive 55 per cent.
