PM Modi launches 5G Test Bed developed by eight technical institutes
New Delhi: On the occasion of silver jubilee celebrations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a 5G Test Bed, developed as a multi-institute collaborative project by a total of eight institutes led by IIT Madras. Prime Minister Modi graced the occasion as the chief guest through video conferencing. He also released a postal stamp on TRAI’s silver jubilee celebrations. The other institutes that participated in the project include IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IISc Bangalore, Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER) and Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology (CEWiT). Facebook to discontinue some location-tracking features
San Francisco: Due to “low usage”, Facebook is reportedly discontinuing several services that tracked your real-time location, including Nearby Friends, location history and background location. In a notification sent to people who have used the feature in the past, the tech giant said it will stop collecting data associated with these features on May 31 and will wipe any stored data on August 1, reports The Verge. “While we are deprecating some location-based features on Facebook due to low usage, people can still use Location Services to manage how their location information is collected and used,” confirming the news, Meta spokesperson Emil Vazquez said in an emailed statement. Teen social app Uable launches campus ambassador programme
Hyderabad: Uable, a teen social app, on Thursday announced the launch of the campus ambassador programme which aims to bring together all teen communities that exist in schools, colleges, neighbourhoods, and other institutions on Uable. The chosen teen ambassadors (16-18 years old) get a chance to become ‘Zuckerbergs’ in their own right and start their own mini social media network outside of the campus, according to a press release. YouTube Go to stop operating from August this year
Video-streaming platform YouTube has announced that YouTube Go, designed for offline videos, will no longer be available for users beginning in August. YouTube Go allows users to save videos for offline viewing, giving options over quality and file size so it is clear how much data a download will use. Nearly half of Elon Musk’s 90 million Twitter followers are ‘fake’
As Tesla CEO and soon-to-be Twitter boss Elon Musk aims to crack down on spam bots, nearly half of his own followers on the micro-blogging platform are fake. According to Twitter auditing tool SparkToro, of Musk’s 87.9 million followers (at the time of the research audit), roughly 48 per cent are fake, reports Time. These are the accounts that are “unreachable and will not see the account’s tweets because they’re spam, bots, propaganda, etc. or because they’re no longer active on Twitter”.
