The proposed Digital University will offer short term and long term courses on tribal life, culture, customs and other aspects of tribes
Hyderabad: The Centre is setting up a new Digital Tribal University to teach about the culture and lifestyle of the tribals of the country. Preparations are being made to start these courses from the next academic year.
The proposed Digital University will offer short term and long term courses on tribal life, culture, customs and other aspects of tribes.
As many as 25 subjects related to tribal customs of various States will be part of the courses offered by the university. Telangana Tribal Welfare Department authorities have also prepared a draft on four subjects — Gussadi dance, Totikirti music, Dholikoya music and Naikpod masks of tribals — to be included in the university courses.
Drafts are also being prepared from different States on topics such as music, craft, art, food, medicine, lifestyle, tribal science, dance, drama and tribal deities. The subjects offered by the university will be in digital mode. Video, audio lessons and text material are being prepared for the courses being offered by the proposed university.
Last week, officials of the Union Tribal Ministry held a review meeting with the tribal cultural research institutes of various States and the senior officials of the Tribal Welfare Departments to discuss the setting up of a digital tribal university. The subject experts have reportedly suggested changes and additions on the draft of 25 subjects prepared by the States.
