Cillian Murphy on BAFTA win: ‘One man’s monster is another man’s hero’

Irish actor Cillian Murphy won the Best Actor Award for his brilliant performance in Christopher Nolan film, Oppenheimer. The actor defeated competition like Bradley Cooper and Paul Giamatti to take home the prize.

An overwhelmed Muphy took the stage to thank his team and his loved ones and said, “Thank you for that extraordinary, exhilarating script, and for always pushing me. Oppenheimer was this colossally knotty, complex character, and he meant different things to different people. One man’s monster is another man’s hero. That’s why I love movies as a place to interrogate and investigate that complexity.”

Cillian became the first Irish-born actor to win a BAFTA. The night belonged to Nolan and the team as Oppenheimer won seven awards, including Best Director and Best Picture awards.

Besides the wins in these main categories, Oppenheimer also bagged awards in categories of editing, cinematography, musical score as well as Best Supporting Actor, won by American superstar Robert Downey Jr. Now, the team is looking forward to making their presence felt at the upcoming Academy Awards, to be held on March 11 (IST).
