Congress and BJP spar over loudspeaker issue in Rajasthan

After the BJP claimed that it would remove loudspeakers from religious sites in Rajasthan if it came to power in the state, the Congress has accused the saffron party of indulging in “politics of communalism”.

Earlier, Rajasthan BJP chief Satish Poonia had said, “We will also have loudspeakers removed if we come to power.”

Responding to the same, Congress minister Pratap Khachariyawas said, “These people should be ashamed of themselves. They will be cursed. They indulge in politics of communalism, of dividing Hindus and Muslims along religious lines because they have nothing else to show.”

Speaking exclusively to India Today, he added, “They do not have any answers for price rise or unemployment and that is why they indulge in such politics of polarisation.”

UP, MAHARASHTRA

The loudspeaker issue has reached Rajasthan after the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh removed 37,000 loudspeakers and reduced the volume of another 55,000 at different religious sites.

Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Raj Thackeray has been batting for the removal of loudspeakers from all mosques in the state. He has said that if his demands are not fulfilled by May 4, he will ensure that the Hanuman Chalisa is played “at double power” outside all mosques.
