The complaint pertains to the PM’s reply to the motion of thanks on the President’s address, in which he said the family members of Jawaharlal Nehru have desisted from using the Nehru surname.

In his notice, Venugopal has alleged that the remarks were made in a mocking tone and were not just disgraceful, but also insulting and defamatory to members of the Nehru family. Calling the PM’s argument as preposterous, Venugopal said the PM is aware that the surname of the father is not taken by the daughter.

“Despite knowing that, he deliberately mocked…. The tone and tenor of the remark is insinuating and derogatory in nature. This clearly amounts to casting reflections upon Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by the PM, which breaches upon their privileges and also tantamounts to contempt of the House,” the notice said.
