Speaking to reporters, Bommai said, “This is the question of the nation’s honour. Purposefully, history has been distorted and people are reacting accordingly, adding, “Siddaramaiah must oppose this documentary. Whatever may the political differences be, they must unite in the interest of the nation”.
The BBC documentary created a huge uproar in the country, with the government banning it and directing the platforms like YouTube and Twitter to take down the documentary from their platforms.
The BBC’s documentary titled ‘India: The Modi Question’ consisted of PM Modi’s (then Gujarat CM) quizzing by a BBC reporter who asked the state leadership about the 2002 Gujarat riots and the alleged ethnic mob violence that ensued. The violence broke out allegedly after a train carrying Hindu pilgrims in Godhra was set ablaze. The violence caused casualties, resulting in more than a thousand deaths and hundreds of crimes.
Speaking on the incident where he snatched a mic from a seer speaking over rain-affected parts of Bengaluru, Bommai said Kaginele is his guru, and he had just reacted on the issue raised.
‘He is our guru (teacher). I gave a reaction to the issue raised by the seer. After that incident, he continued his speech,” said CM Bommai.
