Conor McGregor responds to Liam Neeson calling him a ‘leprechaun who gives Ireland a bad name’

Asurprise rivalry has come to the fore as actor Liam Neeson had some choice words to say about former UFC champion Conor McGregor.

During a recent interview, Neeson said McGregor gives Ireland a bad name, stating: “That little leprechaun Conor McGregor, he gives Ireland a bad name. I know he’s fit, and I admire him for that, but I can’t take it.”

It’s safe to say that Neeson isn’t exactly a fan of UFC either as he continued: “UFC I can’t stand. That to me is like a bar fight. I know the practitioners are like, ‘no, you’re wrong—the months of training we do …’ Why don’t you just grab a beer bottle and hit the other guy over the head? That’s the next stage of the UFC. I hate it.”

Conor McGregor replies to Liam Neeson’s scathing attack

McGregor replied by simply tweeting: “Irish proud – Always.”

Perhaps, we could be seeing Neeson vs McGregor in the future as the actor is surprisingly experienced in combat sports. During his days as an amateur boxer he won a number of regional titles and we all know how well exhibition fights to these days…

Only a very brave man would take on a Jedi Knight, though. If you didn’t know, Neeson played Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace, so he likely learnt a few mind tricks while filming.

McGregor is no stranger to the spotlight, good or bad. He was recently in the news after being hit by a car while on his bicycle. The former two-weight champion is also facing a court case against Samantha Murphy after she suffered a broken arm on McGregor’s yacht.

Things haven’t been going well for McGregor in the cage, meanwhile, having sustained a broken leg in his defeat against Dustin Poirier last time out.

That defeat made it two on the bounce, but McGregor will aim to put that right later this year as he makes his long awaited return to action against fellow lightweight Michael Chandler as recently announced by Dana White.
