Cyber crooks dupe Hyderabad woman to tune of Rs. 1.3 lakh in house rental scam

The victim had posted an advertisement on ‘Quikr App’, and received a call from a person who claimed to be working with the army. The man told the woman that his accountant will get in touch with her for further transactions.

Hyderabad: A woman lost Rs. 1.30 lakh to cyber fraudsters who duped her on pretext of taking her flat on rent.

The victim had posted an advertisement on ‘Quikr App’, and received a call from a person who claimed to be working with the army. The man told the woman that his accountant will get in touch with her for further transactions.

Later, a man who claimed to be an accountant called the woman and spoke to her. On the pretext of paying an advance amount, the man asked her to transfer some amount to his bank account. He said that they adopt a ‘reversal model’ for payments. The woman initially transferred Rs. 5 and promptly the payment was reversed and she received the amount back in her account.

The woman then transferred a bigger amount and it was not reverted to her bank account. “The man convinced the woman that there could be some technical issues and made her transfer around Rs. 1,30,980 and duped her,” said the cybercrime police.

A case is registered.
